With 20 years of management and executive experience, Rick has directly contributed to over $100 Million in revenue growth and shareholder value for technology (hardware and software) and service companies. Beginning at the age of 18 with his first start-up company (which grew from 10 to 500 employees in 4 years), Rick has been in management roles at private and public companies, managing cross department teams responsible for revenue, customer experience and R&D. During Rick’s time at Briotix, as an Executive and Board Director, his contributions lead to growth of the company from $30k to $30Mil, and the successful sale to US Physical Therapy, a publicly traded company in Houston, Texas. Rick has lectured in the US and abroad on Workplace Performance and has received awards for leadership and performance from Scripps Media (President’s Award), MIT, and the Sacramento Kings. Rick’s Community Leadership includes volunteering as a mentor/coach for multiple entrepreneur organizations and university programs, as well as direct volunteer and financial support for recreational sports and non-profit educational programs.
Darryl Schoen is the founder and president of Manufacturers Financing Services, which, since the early 1990s, has promoted equipment sales, especially in robotics and other manufacturing equipment, by providing custom-tailored, quick turnaround financing. After receiving his BS at Chico State and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin, Darryl completed a management training program at a large Wisconsin bank, and then returned to California to be closer to family. While working with Brunswick, Darryl structured equipment and real estate financing for bowling equipment customers in Western Canada and the Western US. He left Brunswick to work in a more entrepreneurial environment, dealing with budgets, foreign currency hedging, and credit. After expressing a desire to eventually run a company, the company’s four entrepreneur-owners challenged him to devise a business plan for a new business and present it to the company’s board of directors. The Board signed off and agreed to fund Darryl’s new operation. In 2007, he sold the successful business to two public Japanese companies, which asked him to stay on as President. He loves working with people – from Forbes 500 companies to mom-and-pop businesses – coming up with customized finance solutions, especially ones they haven’t thought of.
The Sacramento Angels is a group of individuals who invest in early-stage Northern California companies (or close by regions of adjacent states).
The group meets once a month over dinner and listens to presentations from candidate companies. If some members show interest in a presenting company, the group facilitates their collaborative efforts to share further due diligence and negotiate of deal terms. Members act on their own behalf and make their own individual investment decisions.
Sacramento Angels membership is open to individuals who are accredited investors with the experience and desire to invest in and work directly with emerging-technology companies. The members have a wide range of backgrounds, including CEO’s, senior executives, entrepreneurs, attorneys and professional venture capitalists. They apply this considerable experience to assist their investments with board membership, business strategy and implementation, team building and fundraising.

Managing Director, The Right Box LLC
Josh David Miller (aka JDM) is an entrepreneur and startup advisor who has helped nearly a hundred companies launch or scale. An experienced facilitator, JDM has led many events over the years, including startup competitions, venture capital conferences, community summits, workshops, and design sprints. He considers himself a professional instigator who specializes in the meta-cognition of startups, entrepreneurship, and innovation, whose superpower is in using those tools to find the right next question to ask, creating focus, clarity, and potency.
Most recently, He founded The Right Box, where he and his diverse team of entrepreneurs, design thinkers, and instigators of change collaborate with innovative teams to launch and scale products. They created a program, based on classic design sprints, to find the best possible product-market fit hypothesis for the moment and develop a plan to test it — in under one week.
JDM spends his free time as a startup ecosystem builder, connecting founders and funders in the Sacramento area; is an unabashed nerd who considers science and philosophy textbooks “brain candy”; and can usually be found wearing unusually colourful shoes.
